Who is Laura Vines?
My love affair with music began before formal lessons. A toy piano opened the door to exploration at age 5. Then lessons at 7. Never did I dream as I went to lesson after lesson for over a decade, practiced or didn’t, grumbled, sighed, practiced a little more, the enormous role piano would play in my life.
It was the “gateway drug” to a whole world of music, friends, adventures, performing, exploration, and yes, livelihood. It made picking up other instruments so much easier, and led to unimaginable richness in my life. I fell in love with old-time banjo, guitar, organ, and now the Celtic harp. I became a songwriter and then a composer. Music also stimulated other creative expression. In short, it made me who I am today.
It is my joy to offer that opening to children and adults, allowing them the opportunity to let music become what it will to them. I have taught in some capacity for over 20 years, music lessons in particular for over a decade. So I say to you who would like to take this journey with me, Welcome!
